Extreme 40 Teams will go head to head over the iShares Cup.
With several teams returning to the Extreme 40 circuit and several teams joining for the first time this season will see some close battles.
Each of the competing boats will race with four crew (including the helmsman or driver plus three crew) and, of course, the invited ‘fifth man’ spot for a VIP guest. In some cases, the owner or skipper of the boat may not drive the boat, handing over that all-important role to a specialist. The skipper plays a key role in the success of the team, in charge of crew recruitment, campaign strategy, logistics and making essential decisions to keep driving the team forward and at the top end of the class.
Because Extreme 40 crews are derived from the world’s best sailors, from the world of Olympics, America’s Cup and other record breaking campaigns, most of the teams put together a core crew that try and race together as much as possible but it is also common for a ‘substitute’ to replace a crew member if they have other unavoidable commitments such as an Olympic qualifier event. As a result some of the crew listed below may change at each event.
